Re: [LUG] Fab lab Devon to expand to Barnstaple

There's all sorts of 'petty bureaucracy'* that needs to be sorted for something like this and I'd imagine fablab (or any proper teachers) would have a handle on this to help get it started. I dont know what FabLab or their governors (a library organisation/charity that has taken over devon libraries) would think about this (I've sent an email with the suggestion today) but if there are people who are up for running this up the flagpole perhaps we can have a look at what we can do???
*petty bureaucracy - things someone has thought about and made a form with questions you pretend you dont want to understand.

I think you could really do well with that, eso as there are those of us in different areas who could possibly help out if required. If it was run by the fab lab then you would i guess come under their insurance too.

Looks like Barnstaple Library could get it's own fablab. Spotted this on
spotlight this morning so found a link on the bbc website. I know
there are people here in North Devon.

Considering doing the volunteer 'training' and splitting some time
between Barnstaple and Exeter... !

They're looking for a full-time technician at Barnstaple (paid) .. but I
know I can't commit to that!

I've been wondering about VanLab - ie fablab in a van that can be take to smaller communities/schools on a regular basis*. I spoke to Susanne at Holsworthy on Tuesday and she said the 3d printer they had there was chosen for its sturdiness and transportability. Needs some looking into but could be a goer.

* and subsidised by renting to business?
