[LUG] Restore filesystem from Rsync backup

Hi All,

Two questions please. The first is hopefully easy. I've had to reinstall Mint 17.3 due to a failed update to Mint 18 (that's question 2). However I cannot get it to mount the Synology NAS, despite using exactly the same command as previously used (I had the fstab saved in a text file). When I tried sudo mount -a the two other internal drives mounted but the NAS gave this error:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on 192.168.0.3:/volume1/Hera,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
(for several filesystems (e.g. nfs, cifs) you might
       need a /sbin/mount.<type> helper program)
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so

I tried dmesg | tail as suggested but there doesn't seem anything relevant in it:

julian@CERCE ~ $ dmesg | tail
[ 23.942585] init: plymouth-upstart-bridge main process ended, respawning
[ 24.375208] init: plymouth-stop pre-start process (1594) terminated with status 1
[ 25.113649] tda1004x: timeout waiting for DSP ready
[ 25.153653] tda1004x: found firmware revision 0 -- invalid
[ 25.153670] tda1004x: waiting for firmware upload...
[ 25.167826] saa7134 0000:01:0a.0: Direct firmware load for dvb-fe-tda10046.fw failed with error -2 [ 25.167877] saa7134 0000:01:0a.0: Direct firmware load for dvb-fe-tda10045.fw failed with error -2
[ 25.167884] tda1004x: no firmware upload (timeout or file not found?)
[ 25.167890] tda1004x: firmware upload failed
[ 27.406555] usb 2-1: reset high-speed USB device number 2 using ehci-pci

This is the fstab line for the NAS:

# automount synology nas
192.168.0.3:/volume1/Hera /media/julian/HERA nfs nouser,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,atime,auto,rw,dev,exec,suid 0 0

Have I done/forgotten something stupid? I'm expecting 'Yes, you forgot ...'

Question 2. As per the subject, restoring a filesystem from an rsync backup. Immediately before the failed upgrade attempt I did a full system backup, but no matter what I try I cannot restore the damn thing. PLEASE can someone give me a step-by-step idiot guide to restoring the backup to get my system back the way it was this time yesterday?

Kind regards,

Julian
