[LUG] More Scam Phone Calls

Well, I am not feeling so neglected now. I had a second phone call recently about "a problem with my internet connection". At the time we had some visitors so I had to just hang up.

A few minutes ago, while using my desktop, I had another call, this time telling me about a problem with my "Windows computer". So I played along a little and asked for some more info. He was, it seems, from the Windows support team and he had discovered some malware on my Windows computer. This was stuff like viruses etc.

So I said that was very interesting, and I thanked him for the warning, and I said that I would look into it and sort it out myself. That caused a quick panic, of course, and he said that he could sort it out "properly" for me.

So I said thanks, but there was just one thing that puzzled me, namely that I don't have a Windows computer. So how did he discover my 'problem'? That threw him, and he asked me what I did use. I asked if he had ever heard of an OS called Solaris. That baffled him even more.

Anyway, he asked me if I used to use Windows, so I said yes. How long ago? Seventeen years. So he gave up and rang off.

This is still fairly new to me, so I am not very good yet. Since I seem to be getting these calls more frequently I will no doubt be getting some more practice. Incidentally the number came up on my phone, it was 01226 490 001. Up to now they have shown as International, so I was not expecting a scam call when I answered. I will hopefully be better prepared next time.

LOL

Neil
