Re: [LUG] Postgresql su user

Actually Simon am a bit concerned as that documentation relates to older version and I was aiming to install Odoo v9.

After using wget to download Odoo v9.zip and checking Postgresql, I then installed the many mnay python dependencies used, then sudo python setup.py install

This is a horrible install perhaps the setup script is nasty or missing loads of dependencies or is it just me?

It start with this error.

The required version of setuptools (>=1.4) is not available,
and can't be installed while this script is running. Please
install a more recent version first, using
'easy_install -U setuptools'.

So IÂ run easy_install -U setuptools

Then re run sudo python setup.py install

Then have to install
https://github.com/erocarrera/pydot

Then re run sudo python setup.py install

and get some badly coded errors.(starting to be more concerned over the choice of using odoo if its not well written) Are there any good alternatives that have Google integration ?

Hi Simon

With you on the security side. So I followed the official doc and get a different message.

could not change directory to "/root"

Still its let me create the user, so hopefully this will be enough to proceed.

Thanks.

The instructions seem to show creating a PostgreSQL superuser and entering that users details into a web form.

Perhaps Bad Apple's paranoia is rubbing off, but what the heck do they think they are playing at? Creating a database, create a user, grant all perms to the database user, is pretty weak security-wise, but at least those apps (Wordpress I'm looking at you) usually leak only their own data when they mess up.

This is the kind of install where one blunder in their logic and your machine is rooted.

The official install guides says "n" to superuser. Probably start again from there time.
