I'd suggest upload to Flickr...

And I think resizing in the gimp is easy and reasonable.

But to resize a whole set of pictures I use a tiny script invoking ImageMagick to drop an 800pixel or whatever size file into a subdirectory.

I've seen Gordon's reply and I actually have some sympathy with it, despite also sympathising with the "properness" of having somebody resize images before sending. The reality is that most users can't or don't want to be bothered with doing that.  (Although if you really want to follow that train of thought, this is about as simple as it gets for Windows; https://imageresizer.codeplex.com/ )

I would suggest something like dropbox or gdrive where files are uploaded in the background, and things like images are automatically thumbnailed and scaled by the magical backend, but still allowing you to download fullsize should you so wish. She can just drag them in there and send you a link to the folder, leaving the tools to do their job in the background.

My daughter has a fairly new camera. Yesterday she tried to send me an
email with some of her pictures. She does not know about
scaling an image prior to sending it as an attachment. There were some
problems!

I use GIMP for any photo editing, but I think that is far too big a
program for her to use. So I am looking for a simple photo
editing program. I have had a look around and have installed
LightZone as a first try to see how that works out. Not sure yet.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a simple photo editing program
which I could set up on her computer? Really just to make sure that any
attachments are not too big.

Thanks,

Neil
