Re: [LUG] Extending Wifi

Netgear flog wireless range extenders.

They are easy to set-up, the performance isn't stunning but they sort the range issue. If security is a concern disable WDS.

The WNR2200 has no antenna socket, so external antenna is a soldering job and probably not worth it.

You could buy a router with better antenna (start about Â30).

If your computer is nearer the target area might help to stick a wireless access point there, on the other end of the cable. Laptop should then roam seamlessly between two signals.

My first step would be look for interference.

My own WiFi range issue dramatically improved by sorting the freeview amplifier problem which was causing radio noise. Also check if you are seeing neighbours WiFi and prefer a channel well away from their's sometimes works.

There are a lot of options, a lot depends how bad the issue is.

Anyone know the practical limit on router to modem for ADSL? As thinking of mounting the router outside my study, as in the study I'm giving my neighbours better WiFi than my own TV.
