It's so effective that I bought several - you can run the most ludicrously overheating and terrible of laptops for hours in your lap without it roasting your gentleman's area. Because the bean bag underneath permits a certain amount of deformation it's also really useful for angling a laptop plus or minus a good few degrees as well, which is incredibly useful combined with a laptops normal screen hinges: right now, I've got 6 different laptops in for repairs or work, and four of them are currently on, sat on these "old lady" lunch trays, and positioned neatly around my small and overfilled work room on the floor angled so that I can easily turn and check progress on each of their screens with no glare or bad viewing angle problems. They are probably among my favourite, cheapest, and most effective bits of kit ever. As they are basically targeted at folks of a more senior age who want to eat their lunch off their lap in comfort whilst watching TV they tend to come with somewhat kitschy designs - most of mine have kittens on although my favourite one has a functional chess board pattern on it :] My IRL cat also likes to sleep on them for some reason, especially after I've just taken a crappy old red hot laptop off of one of them and they're nice and toasty. They look like this: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=padded+tray+kittens If someone made one of these but combined it with an actual docking station with dual DVI/display ports, serial, USB and so on they'd make millions. I'd buy 10 immediately! I can't possibly recommend these things too much - I don't think it's quite what you're looking for but you should definitely get one anyway.
