It's all so long ago, but I wasn't an early buyer.  In fact, I got mine

Nearly all Sinclair stuff was.  You didn't buy their gear for the
design aesthetic though;  You bought it because it was cheap.   :-D

Oh yes.   :-(

After the ZX, I moved to an Atari 800 (a *real* keyboard!).  After a
couple of years, the mags started creating checksum generators so that
debugging got a lot easier;  Type in the line, hit enter, if checksum
calculated == checksum in mag, you moved on.
