IIRC, the RAM pack was 16kB and there was 1kB on board.

The rampack added 15kb, bringing the total to 16K. (The later version actually had 16kb, but 1kb of that was disabled)

I soldered mine in place via an extender card, which allowed me to plug
in multiple add ons. ÂI don't recall ever owning anything that plugged
into it though.


My mod was a strip of self-adhesive rubber at the back edge of the zx81 itself, which held the rampack aloft.

Really was a horrible piece of design, and a horrible computer - but so exciting at the time. It was my first computer too, although I was two years older than Mark when I first got my hands on it.

Did you type in program listings from the magazines as well? Then spend five times as long trying to find the bit you mistyped?
