Re: [LUG] Free up my Galaxy Ace 3

and as a PS. There are quite a few guides as to how to root a phone using linux and install clockworkmod, which you can then use to install a custom ROM, cyangenmod etc, from your phone. The android-tools-adb package means you don't need the android SDK and don't need to do everything in the platform-tools sub directory of the SDK. I am no command line wizard, but figuring out what to do took about an hour, mostly googling, and the process itself minutes.

This guide is for the nexus 4, but I imagine its not so different for other recent android phones, just the choice of ROM. The adb commands are exactly the same as for the windows command line.

It took quite some digging and trying things out with the potential to brick my phone (HTC Sensation) but I did eventually find the tools for Linux that let you communicate with the phone over USB during boot (if you boot to the boot menu).

I'll have a dig around and see if I can find them on my laptop and if they have a link to their origins - there might be one for the Galaxy Ace.
