Re: [LUG] Linux Format Magazine

I guess I’m still old-school… I enjoy reading stuff “offline”…

The cover DVDs are a mixed blessing – complete waste of time when we can download it in seconds, but for those that have no ADSL (inc 3rd world countries – it’s a global mag), then the DVD’s their only way of keeping up to date.

Plus… it saves me having to download a distro, just to burn to a disk, just to recover someone’s knackered windows partition J

But yeah, I’ve got quite a pile of CDs / DVDs here now … not sure what to make from them – perhaps a parabolic solar collector death ray?

I’m guessing most of you would have read (or at least seen) Linux Format magazine and / or listened to it’s podcasts…

It appears that 3 (or 4) of the magazine’s editorial team have quit Linux Format and are hoping to start their own magazine.

From their video it would look like they’re alluding to some editorial disagreements at Future Publishing, so hopefully their new magazine will be more open – and they’re (planning to) give 50% of their profits to open source developers…

Have a look:

Cheers,

Good luck to them but who the heck is still buying magazines?

Kevin

I actually bought one a while back as a matter of interest - not completely dull and better than a newspaper but not worth the money and the DVD nearly exploded it was so off centre.
Tom te tom te tom
