So, as a combination of the above thoughts I have been looking around to see which ISP's are now ready for IPv6. Not many! I have spoken to the people at Fast and they are obviously not a bit interested at the moment. So, does anyone on the list have any thoughts, opinions, on this please?
i recently ran across this piece, which looks to be about 10 years old, and seems to provide some explanatory background for understanding the present state of IPv6 (non-)adoption. http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/ipv6mess.html the crux seems to lie here:
The specifications [for IPv6] could have defined a functionally equivalent public IPv6 address for each public IPv4 address, embedding the IPv4 address space into the IPv6 address space; but they didn't.
this design decision is utterly baffling to me. it is almost as if there were a snail mail system designed with no protocol for handling mail sent from an address *with* an apartment number (IPv6) to an address *without* one (IPv4), and vice versa. -wes -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
