Hi Guys

I am currently running a traceroute on bartontrees.co.uk and getting a time out
problem. Is it possible to track down why this might be happening please?

Tracing route to www.bartontrees.co.uk [91.208.99.12] over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 16 ms 46 ms 28 ms cpc5-bary4-2-0-gw.5-1.cable.virginmedia.com [213.105.130.1] 2 21 ms 17 ms 13 ms cdif-core-2b-ae3-936.network.virginmedia.net [62.254.252.97] 3 26 ms 17 ms 15 ms brnt-bb-1b-ae9-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.174.85] 4 19 ms 15 ms 16 ms brnt-bb-1a-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net [213.105.174.225] 5 20 ms 22 ms 51 ms nrth-bb-1b-as4-0.network.virginmedia.net [212.43.162.218] 6 19 ms 20 ms 29 ms tele-ic-4-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.174.18] 7 18 ms 29 ms 21 ms te-0-2-0-0.cr01.the-lon.as12703.net [195.66.224.84]
 8 22 ms 31 ms 19 ms 193.29.223.70
 9 32 ms 21 ms 19 ms 46.249.195.171
10 25 ms 27 ms 21 ms ge-1-377.captain.core.misp.co.uk [91.198.165.5]
11 16 ms 21 ms 20 ms linux.gridhost.co.uk [91.208.99.12]

Works OK from here - is it not even completing the first hop? That's your PC to the router, so if *that* is failing there is a local issue, but if it's later could you post your traceroute as far as it gets please?

It could be anything - peering issue with your ISP, router down somewhere, something configured to ignore traceroutes, even saw one once where a router was not configured for full duplex so you could go one way through it but not the other. If you post your result as is we can see what router/network is causing the problem.

Kind regards,

Julian
