Hi Jon,
If you're looking for getting started info on raspi have a look at the makershed book 'Getting started with the Raspberry Pi', it's only Â6 ish in digital format from Google play or Kindle, 9ish for the paper version. It's a good intro. There also the 'Pi Users Guide' by eben upton et Al too which is good too.
If you bring your pi along to LUG meets someone will be able to help you with specific problems. And of course you can ask questions on here or simply Google it there is loads of info out there - that's often the quickest way to find stuff out and usually my first port of call...
