Is there a reason to have a temporary making list manager if you're planning on implementing mailman anyway?

Does anyone have any experience running ezmlm (a list manager) on a
recent distro?
I'm in the process of moving the lists from a server to a VPS and am
not sure what's the best distro to choose. Ezmlm is ancient (last
update in 1997) and while there's no reason why it would not work on
any new distro, it'd be good to know if someone has tried it recently.
It's only a temporary solution; if it's going to take me too long, I
may as well convert the thing to mailman right away.
