[LUG] Belkin RT73USB problems

On my latest Xubuntu install the Belkin USB wireless has started to not 
play from time to time - once running its fine but its random as to how 
it starts - sometimes on boot, sometimes after an ifup wlan0 ( with the 
ubiquitous wlan0=wlan0 doesn’t exist), and sometimes after an unplug-plug

The device works fine on another install and seemingly did on this one 
for a while...
