Its not the clubs fault,  its the people further up.

This is very common.

I once recently encountered a firm where this was the practice. Once
it was signed and waved in front of the MD, the accounts people then
scanned it back in for archive, shredding the dead tree version.

Quite a few people are now scanning and PDFing paper docs, it's
something I've been looking at for work too.

And trying doing a VAT return - which I have to do every 3 months and even though I produce "e" invoices for my clients (yes Tom, PDFs) and submit my VAT returns online, I need to print them out and store them for 6 years. (Along with the paper invoice/receipts I get from buying "stuff").

I know of one company that prints them out, then (re) PDFs them by scanning them and destroying the originals... Madness...
