Hi George, If you think Google is controlling you've obviously not used an iPad or a Kindle... Google want you to use their Services, they developed an OS and give it away for free what did you expect? However they do allow you to side step their Services without rooting the device which others don't. Sounds like you want two tablets, one for your good lady who sounds like she has entered into the spirit of the tablet idea - using it to consume the content that she wants. Then you want one for yourself that you can root and play to your hearts content... but maybe you should wait until someone releases a Ubuntu on Android device... or a Firefox OS device...
