Re: [LUG] Postfix outgoing email from single domain address?

As Tom is asking - what is Postfix achieving here.

Ralf Hildebrandt has written extensively on the perils of Exchange, and
how to front end it with Postfix.

Unlike Tom I think there is a good case for fronting Exchange with
Postfix, not least Exchange is too complex to do almost anything so the
less you configure it the less chance of destroying all your email.

But do take advantage of Postfix's strengths.

Postfix can check (and cache) valid and invalid addresses in a domain it
is proxying email for, it can thus do greylisting, and other spam
filtering without much risk of accepting an email it can then no longer
deliver.

To do what you actually describe would need something like VERP but why
do it - it seems painful. Makes sense for things like email forwarding,
and mail list bounces, but not sure why you are putting this complexity
into the email process itself?

If exchange is used for what its good at .. oh hang on I'll start again.
Exchange can handle simple things and if it needs to be used then there is just no need for postfix - unless you expect to be able to leverage postfix in to completely replace exchange. Having two mail servers interacting may be within our ken but will become a serious problem for MS trained gui monkeys later.
