It does have NVidia and the driver is installed (the xorg version 173.14.30) but what baffles me is the fact that sound works from a live cd! I may have loaded some other sound module thats killed it so I may have to load the live cd and get a pakcage list and compare later...
As for the wireless...

If it worked from the livecd and not for your upgrade, then that means the drivers are at least available and work. So it must be just a configuration thing. I generally find the easiest thing to do in a scenario like that is to back up my home directory and then just reinstall from scratch. In fact, I find the best way to do an upgrade generally is to keep my home directory on a separate partition and then just do a fresh install over the rest of the machine. That way you always get to see a distro the way it was meant to be experienced rather than just an upgrade of your old packages.
