Hi Folks :-)
Finally got around to looking at this again!
I changed the wifi channel (twice) as Grant suggested, still to know
avail. :-s I did install wicd to view the channels that other wireless
netowrks were using.
The net book does connect to the wireless network. I am able to ping
google. I am *just* able to browse to a site. But within a few
minutes the connection is lost and I am unable to ping stuff. Then it
will return and as before I am able to ping urls and very very slowly
browse to a site (so slow, so as to be un-usable).
In an attempt at posting some (useful?) output, below are the results

Any thing else that I can post that might be useful?
I am not sure what to try next? The problem is made more "interesting"
given that there is a desktop, wirelessly connected to the same
network, in the same room. It works without issue and was connected
during the above tests.
I am kind of at a loss what to try next. Last night I installed all
the updates (113!) etc - which made no difference. The only other
thing that *I* can think to try a different distro! But that's like
using a JCB to bang a nail in :-s lol
