I think with SSL it is often a bad idea, probably not too bad if you just want to protect sign-up but not so clever where financial transactions are involved. Then again I think taking advertising from 3rd parties is a bad idea for such sites - like the recent London Stock Exchange issue, or perhaps most amusingly the MSN issue where the default home page in some versions of IE was including malware from a 3rd party via adverts. The issue is that being non-free software the Google tracking and analytics be it ever so nice only works if you give them the data. I've yet to see comparable functionality and ease of use in a free software alternative you run on your own server. Anyone seen one? I have previously noted NatWest using 3 different tracking technologies, and thought this was unnecessarily exposing my online banking to potential hijacking. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
