I just received a similar call myself. The guy claimed to be calling from BT and he told me someone had downloaded or malicious file from my computer or something. Told me to follow his instructions which I did, hoping he would give me some information that I could use (e.g. to submit a bad URL to a blacklist) but ended up giving up too early: didn't want to do too many dodgy things on my work laptop and don't know enough about Windows Event Viewer and the likes to give him sensible answers without having to do what he said. What worried me most though is that he seemed to be calling from a busy call centre.
