Not specifically of Media Wiki but it is PHP and MySQL, it doesn't look
especially hard.

What is it currently running on and why is the site crawling like a dog
currently? It is currently at 1 and 1, they use to overload some of
their low end offerings but their virtual servers perform well in my
experience.

You also appear to be several releases behind the current media wiki
release, when they have the stock advice of "stay current". Is this some
vendor backporting of fixes, or are you waiting till it is serving
Viagra ads to do the updates?

We can do you a scalable virtual server, pay as you go, or just host it
on a shared host, at work. I dare say a lot of folk here can offer similar.
