What exactly do you mean?

Does it fail to boot?

Are you getting anything on the screen?

You may find that booting from an Ubuntu alternative CD (or maybe a Debian CD) might help. Not sure about Debian CDs, but on the Ubuntu alternative CD you can choose a safe mode and modify the boot command line to remove the quiet option which then will boot displaying any kernel messages so you have a better chance of working out what is going on.
