Hi folks, I'm surprised no one has posted this yet... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/01/no_bbc_trust_probe_iplayer_swf_verification/Basically it's a follow up of an article on The Register [1] last week about the BBC changing the way the Flash streaming iPlayer works a little bit so it requires verification which it appears only Adobe Flash does. The problem is, this has blocked some Open Source applications such as XBMC [2] (and possibly others too?) from streaming stuff on the iPlayer.
The BBC Trust have said "The decision to block open source plugins is a matter for BBC Management. The Trust has not received any complaints on this issue and has no plans to look into it further at present".
Supposedly some people have already tried complaining via the web site but they are told to use the Have Your Say link on the BBC web site.
Anyway, one helpful commenter on The Register has posted the postal address for who we can write and complain to...
Sir Michael Lyons BBC Trust Unit 180 Great Portland Street London W1W 5QZNot sure if it'll do any good but hey for the price of a stamp (and envelope, paper, ink and time) it might be worth a try.
