I am the only person who is organising meetings, people have talked
about it but failed to get anything organised,

I don't know north devon so can't arrange anything up there.

You are free to organise a meeting yourself though. There are some
ideas on how to do this essentially its

find somewhere to meet up e.g pub
ask the venue owner if its ok for some friends to meet up one evening
(so you're not clashing with other events,)
announce on list, give a week or two notice if possible.
if possible add to the page at www.dcglug.org.uk/drupal6

i sometimes ask for a show of hands,

its best not to ask if people want to meet at X, just find somewhere
that is convenient to you, as well as a time / date and if its ok with
the venue announce here. Hopefully at least one person can show up,
(weekends or evenings are quite good).

If it works out, you can then book on the evening to do the same a month
later.

Hope this helps, sorry if all the meets are down here in South Devon.
