Quote from the article...

"The virus hit the network on Monday and is still having major implications even now - two days later. According to the IT support email:

??this is a completely new virus and we are the only organisation in the world to experience it. None of the mainstream virus software suppliers have seen this virus, and as such, there is no fix.?"

Now where have I heard something that before...

Oh yes, here... http://www.hoax-slayer.com/virtual-card-virus-hoax.html

"WORST VIRUS EVER --- CNN ANNOUNCED
PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!! A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever. This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee . This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored."

I do wonder if it's true about this being a new type of virus, no doubt over the next couple of days it might be acknowledged if this is the case.

Still, not good for them anyway, it's not much fun when you're stuck going around fixing a problem like this, I remember in an old role where a colleague rolled out a patch on a Friday evening and then went on holiday. Sods law the had a bit of an issue and it screwed up a fair few PCs, so along with a colleague we were stuck sorting these PCs out as well as our other jobs too. Kept us busy though.
