I could back when I had 512k although I find to find now my needs require much more bandwidth (my other half is a Facebook junkie and some of the stuff on there is Flash heavy).
Like I say the data rate is inversely proportional to the used bandwidth - though in facebooks case the useful data rate appears to be 0 even on a phone line. You upgrade your BB and she'll start looking at HD flash and you'll be back to square one but slightly more out of pocket!

I (think I) can download 8 hours of HD TV on it.
Hmm, would take a while.
All day - but then I can watch it at my leisure - if I watched live I'd be stuck watching it - when downloaded a 1 hr program can be watched in 2 1/2 minutes

Tell you what though, it isn't half handy to download Ubuntu in 5 minutes rather than 4 hours. :-) (from the Virgin Media Ubuntu mirror). Not that I do that much anyway.

My Ubuntu downloads seem instant - I get a message telling me the updates ready to install if I like! Just tell synaptic to get it in the background. Use a package proxy and you can update the other machines as if you'd a 100MBit BB ( I've got a 64 bit one so it doesn't quite work but the releases are rarely simultaneous.) Once you take the path of least resistance (more BB bandwidth less decision making in your own life) its just a drug, doesn't improve your life just make you more and more dependent and broke. Only the human race could take a labour saving device like the computer and become a slave to it...
