Hi Martin,

I'd try the recovery console for Windows.  Insert the Windows CD and 
when it loads up choose the recovery console.  Then use the /fixboot 
switch.  That should get you your Windows XP booting properly.  Then 
it's just a matter of putting Ubuntu back in as a dual boot.
