I know they might be a bit more of an expensive solution but have you considered the Devolo Home Plug Kit? - You can get a set which plug into a Wired Router and the other end has a Wireless Transmitter on it so it effectively becomes a Wireless Access Point (as well as having a Wired Connection as well). I've used the Devolo Wired Connectors (i.e. plug in an RJ45 at both ends rather then Wireless) and these worked fine with Kubuntu 7.04. So having another wireless point seemed like a good idea, just the hardware to contend with at the moment.
