Thanks - I'd read that before and lots of others  - the best suggestion was to 
upgrade the bios - done and noticing some serious improvements in speed in 
loading some apps but still got the 'problem'.
I'm actually wondering whether it may be due to the way my devices are 
connected - I've a hard drive on one ata lead and two cds (one v old) on the 
other and I bet the termination is all to cock. In bios it recognises the 
hard drive and then goes looking for the master on the other cable and I 
normally hit f4 to skip or am in the kitchen brewing up so its all running 
when I get in. If I dont hit f4 it boots before I can see whats happening so 
maybe I'll take a screwdriver to it!
