I have updated my tomtom, phone and drobo like this. If you don't mind running XP in a Virtual Machine then I'd recommend the version from http://virtualbox.org which has usb support (assuming your printer is USB). Should be possible to "connect" the printer to the guest operating system and perform updates from inside that. Hope that helps.
