You might like to join schoolforge.org.uk mailing list(s) to discuss the current situation in more depth. While Becta have official supported FOSS for 'saving a bundle' the reality is more complex, with many roadblocks. Indeed they ruffled many feathers with the open schools project - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/06/13/becta_open_source_schools/ and this is still winding up many of our members as the attitude seems to be we can do the work for them for free.
