I just bought a 901 a couple of weeks ago and replaced Xandros with ubuntu-eee
(www.ubuntu-eee.com). Download the iso and use netbootin to create a bootable USB.

Installs like a dream, configured for the eee's peculiarities out of the box and
best of all comes with the Remix interface (created especially for sub-notebooks)
already set up.

Remix is a very good interface, similar to the interface eees come with but more
full featured. Plus you get the full ubuntu repositories (ie basically the same as
debian) rather than the very limited repositories Asus provide.

Can't recommend it highly enough although, having said that, I don't know how it
works on a 1000 since I haven't tried it - website says it should work fine.

Debian is a great distro but you'd have to customise/configure it a lot after
install to get it to work with the eee as nicely as ubuntu-eee does.

Regards,

Trewornan
