There's plenty of free and commercial support available.  For  
instance, there's the local LUG mailing lists, distro mailing lists  
and online web forums (both official ones and unofficial ones),  
documentation, magazines.

I think it's just a case of getting the message out there to Linux newbies.

Chances are if they've heard about Linux and want to give it a try,  
they will be able to do a web search for help, or *hopefully* have  
someone knowledgeable to ask (rather than the local Windows 'expert'  
whom in some cases doesn't know sod all).
