My partner uses WinXP with Norton, and I have been cleaning up her system. One problem that kept on nagging me was why the machine was so slow (Pentium 4, 3.4Ghz with 1GB ram). This really started bugging me last night while I was upgrading her Openoffice Anyway, with thanks to a suggestion to Paul (on the irc channel: http://www.zleap.net/irc.php for a complete howto or http://www.dclug.org.uk/linux_adm/contacts.php), I suddenly twigged: not only was the damn machine running Norton but also windows defender Turned off windows defender and the system looks much faster Only one antispwyare system running in RAM at a time helps.... -- Henry Thu Mar 29 16:09:03 BST 2007
