Thanks. I tried ffmpeg as suggested below, but the resulting file was HUGE - the original wmv file is 260Mbytes, the avi output by ffmpeg is 1.6GBytes! Do you have any suggestions about how to reduce the size - such as reducing the fps or the sample rate? I think, although I'm not certain, that it also handles WMV. The command to use would be: ffmpeg -i /path/to/input/file.wmv -sameq /path/to/output/file.avi the sameq option ensures that the same quality is used in the output as the input.
