I believe that's the compose key. There's a list of all the possible
combinations here: http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/xorg/xc/nls/Compose/en_US.UTF-8?view=co
(it's also probably on your system, but I have no idea where it might
be).

May I suggest that the en_gb version is likely to be more useful?
