I've never tried Puppy so can't help directly, but Ubuntu is a distribution often chosen by people new to Linux. It's very easy to set up and has excellent hardware detection and, to answer the second part of your question - Ubuntu will actually send you the CD's *FREE*. (Yes, not a scam, had mine - although they took a couple of weeks to arrive) http://www.ubuntu.com/ for info or https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ to go straight for the free disks. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html
