[LUG] Whimsical graphics news bulletin
Hi
I decided to tell you lot about some interesting but somewhat obscure new FOSS things for graphics:
1. Blender 2.43RC (will become 2.43.) It has a new sculpt tool and multires facility which basically replicate ZBrush. Very cool, but multires is slow and crashy. A couple of other features have been added, but these are the major ones.
2. GIMP 2.3 (will become 2.4.) "You know when you've been Tango'd" - the new icons are not entirely brilliant but are made up for by the SIOX foreground selection system, perspective clone, UI updates, calligraphy and patch tool. Plus they replaced Shift+Scroll with a sane zooming control!
3. MakeHuman 0.9. Essentially, Poser in GPL - deform a detailed model by setting percentages of modifiers, then pose it and render. It has a very neat muscle system and is extensible, but unfortunately doesn't do {hair|clothes|custom {lighting|materials}}.
4. Inkscape 44 (out soon) - Blur! Enough said.
5. Agave 0.4.1. Select a colour and get complimentary and similar colours. Good for picking paint and website colour schemes.
