Hi everyone. I have recently installed Debian 'Woody' and am havingsome dificulties configuring my soundcard (amongst other things) but before I start asking questions here regarding this I'd like to see if people think I should get a newer distro.
Woody is quite old, especially for desktop use. You should simply upgrade your existing installation - probably to Etch - testing.
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade testingYou may have to edit /etc/apt/sources.list (using sudo or as root) if 'testing' is not already mentioned in it.
Add something like: deb ftp://mirror.ox.ac.uk/debian/ testing main deb-src ftp://mirror.ox.ac.uk/debian/ testing main
Ultimatly I'm aiming, one day, to make a propper bespoke system for making music and handling sound only. Do you think Woody a good Linux distribution and version to use
Woody is too old, but you can update it without reinstalling or changing to a different distro.
There are specialist distros for multimedia purposes - dynebolic is one, primarily focused on video.
