Making it look pretty and a zillion modules for backwards compatibility with libraries and such like that are probably never used but are there just in case, bundling lots of clip-art and samples of things. It probably isn't that far out from the GNU/Linux world. My desktop Debian install is clocking in at ~3.5GB, and it would be a lot more bloated if I'd made the root partition larger, as that forces me to clean up now and then. Those who hate bloat, should start on GNOME and Mozilla apps (please). Besides run time bloat actually hurts more, especially where one app is eating 15%+ of available RAM, even with lots of RAM, where as disk bloat really doesn't matter that much. 15GB is now about 5GBP of SATA disk space. Where as getting a machine. Whilst the memory costs for say Mozilla Thunderbird is probably several times that at modern memory prices, but the bigger problem is I actually want to run more than 10 apps, where as I only want one 3.5GB operating system installed. - The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
