Re: [LUG] network printer, firewall blocking it

Thanks

Looking at my router setup, I does NOT have a firewall built in, anyway I have gone to custom protocol, entered cups and as it seems to be using both I have entered one for TCP 9100 and one for 631, (both are mentioned in the printer information dialogue) and then gone to the other screen and ticked this for local (as it's a local network printer),

Still can't get it working, have read the brief documetn on how to set thing up, so no idea if I have done it correctly, it works if I disable the firewall, so to me thats the best option, as the software is preventing operation and the documentation is not written well enough

I can specify COMPUTERS that are on the network but the kguarddog manual says nothing about network printers.

As this computer has been running for ages with no firewall, ( or I think it has, no idea actually) then I will just disable it so things WORK. properly. It seems cups is not included in the protocol list, either that or I can disconnect it as a network printer. connect it via usb and hope things work,

Paul

there is always time to fix these things, i expect you will need to open up access to port 631 or 9100. You need your firewall setup on your router, not your PC, as I have explained before... firewall at your single point of entry because if they can get beyond your router they're in anyway...
