[LUG] Console Access under debian

Running Debian Testing with icewm

I trying to access the Virtual Consoles and could not. (Ctrl-Alt-F1 ->
F6) I cannot see any error message in any of the logs

The F keys work fine in any program so I am assuming the key board
works, except that in a terminal window the combination

Ctrl-Alt-F1 gives me "P"
    "   -F2 gives me "Q"
    "   -F3          "R"
    "   -F4          "S"
    "   -F5          ";7~"
    "   -F6          "7;7~"

Finally the consoles worked under Debian Sarge

Any ideas where I should be looking?
