Rob,

With your knowledge of LTSP and your computer repair skills, you
should try breaking into the education market. There are lots of
schools that can ill afford the 3 year life cycle game with hardware
becoming redundant due to (engineered) redundancy in the software
desgin. You would also be increasing the Linux Market quite rapidly
(kids using gnu/linux at school = parents potentially switching over).

Just a thought.

Tom.

You've got a point there. I guess I've got to be able to approach the
school somehow. I was thinking of maybe trying my daughters primary
school and maybe my girlfriend's kids school. I don't think they have
technicians there, as far as I know, its mainly down to the teachers.

I think what I could do with is getting a basic LTSP server with some
educational software installed so I can demonstrate the benefits of
LTSP, or more specificly for schools, the K12LTSP distribution which is
more tailored for schools.

By the way I forgot to add good luck. I have been trying to get the Head at my son's school interested in open source since my son started there 2 years ago. I offered to set up an intranet with a wiki from a recycled box at no cost, all I would need was an IP address, to which the ICT Co-ordinators reply was sounds good but Im not sure what an IP address is.

2 years later and the gentle sell tactics are still not paying off, I guess it is true that you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink. I have even offered to talk to the school governours about free software opportunities, but nothing has ever happend :-(

(I live in Torbay by the way so if you want to pool resources / swap notes let me know off list).

Tom.

Who will do anything (legal) to get Free Software on the agenda.
