Like what hardware, what options you picked in the install.

A quick glance at Bug#276210 suggests it refers to some recent 2.6 kernels on some hardware.

So I'd say try 2.4.27 kernel (vanilla install), and then upgrade it later to see if the same problem occurs (assuming you were trying a 2.6 install).

Failing that you could try disabling all the power saving options in the BIOS. The Debian expert install lets you control the drivers to install, but I wouldn't suggest trying to change those blindly, but I have got Debian installed by finding the right bug reports and following the workaround for whacky hardware on occaison.

Notoriously suspect area of PC hardware is power management, just read up on the evolution of PC power management if you want to see a classic technology disaster story unfold, makes Betamax look like a dream purchase.
