Thats Sony for you. I've been using MiniDisc's since mid 1995, I bought my latest Hi-MD recorder partly due to the fact that standard recordable discs could be used as a storage medium for data (I think its about 230MB on a 50p 80 minute disc when formatted in HiMD mode and just under 1GB for a £5 HiMD disc).

It does allow data storage, but requires the Sony Sonic Stage software installing first. I haven't yet found a way of getting round this.

Ok,

I take back what I said, just plugged in my MiniDisc (on Windows, no drivers installed as of yet) and it detects the MD recorder as a removeable drive and gives a listing of whats on the disc.

Oooh, thats made my day :-)
