I have
been challenging my local Pastor to move to Linux but the cost is
great. He is starting to see the benefit after about 3 years
encouragement. But he has 5 computers! The cost to him is not financial
(they run w98), the cost is time and effort. He will have to move data
across, relearn a new system and then encourage his children to do the
same. MS runs quite well for him, why should he change? Saying
something like MS is rubbish and that they are corrupt really won't
help!

I would point out that win98 no longer gets any update or support and
that if anything goes wrong he is stuffed. Local small computer shops
who usually do support will just suck through their teeth and say
'youre gonna have to install XP guvnor, thats 200 quid'.

Also for the same reason any new hardware he buys is even less likely
to be supported on 98 and Linux and its not like he can run any new
software on it.

Then there is security - no SP2 or IE7. If he has children he really
ought to have some kind of firewall and spamassasin, antivirus, etc.
Or is he going to wait until everybody on his contact list in Outlook
gets porn spam from him?

cheers,

A.
