Hi All, No it's not a new distribution, regrettably. What it is appears to be Mandrake emulating Windows quite successfully in its' ability to fail to boot for no apparent reason. Symptom is quite simply random 'kernel panic'messages on boot, random inasmuch as their timing cannot be predicted, but they always reference 'Interrupt Hander not syncing' and the system locks up requiring a hardware reset. Any ideas what could cause that?
My nephew had a similar sounding problem when he installed Mandrake last Christmas. We eventually got it working by booting with the command line "linux noapic" or something like that! This is a problem with certain motherboards and a solution is described at: http://www.lejabeach.com/ASRock/html/asrockfaq.htm Tony -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
